WHO IS MARSHALL L. McGHEE?

Marshall L. McGhee was born in Caryvill, Tennessee January 20, 1937, the son of Howard and Rhoda Bullock McGhee of Caryvill. He married Shirley Ann Housley, May 21, 1965, the daughter of Ray and Helen Luttrell Housley of LaFollette. Marshall and Shirley have no children.

Marshall is a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University with graduate work from the University of Tennessee.

Shirley is a graduate of Massey College and is employed with LaFollette Medical Center Nursing Home as administrative assistant.

Marshall is a retired school teacher after teaching 32 years, 30 of those years in the Briceville Elementary School. He is a member, trustee, choir diretor of Lake View Baptist of Caryville, Vice-President of the board of directors of the Salvation Army of the Campbell County Unit. He was elected to the Caryville City Council in 1985, member of Caryville Lodge No. 665 F. & A.M., Caryville Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 415. A member of Anderson County Retired Teachers' Association, East Tennessee Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, and the Retired National Education Association. Listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers, received the Golden Apple Award, inducted into the Lincoln Memorial University Literary Hall of Fame, past editor of THE CAMPBELL COUNTIAN, a quaterly newsletter of the Campbell County Historical Society, a recipient of TENNESSEE'S OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD from the Governor.

He has published the following books: "Memories: A Folk History of Briceville School," "Caryville and More," "Caryvill Through The Years" (Co-compiled by Melba Jackson), "A Look Back -- History of Lake View Baptist Church," and "Briceville -- The Town That Coal Built" (Co-compiled by Gene White).
