The Emmental valley is where Langnau is located. Langnau means
"Long Hills" and Emmental is "The Emme Valley". Long hills in
the Emme Valley is the meaning of my family village of origin.
It was probably my favorite place in Switzerland to visit. I even
went back a second time to see more sights. It still maintains
a very laid back attitude compared to some of the other places
I visited. Many places in Switzerland are stressful to deal with.
The feeling of returning to the place where your ancestors have
lived for centuries is something very special and hard to put
into words. I would recommend a trip like this for anyone interested
in their genealogy. Many of my family names were clustered all
around the village of Langnau in even smaller communities like
Trub and Neuenschwand. It was amazing to see these surnames still
living in the same region as they were hundreds of years ago.
The oldest building still being used was built in 1451!
