Zurich street scene in Old Town.

Looking across the harbor area.

The largest clock face in Europe.

Martin Luther's church, where Zwingli was located.

Detail of the towers on Luther's church.

Detail of Heinrich Bullinger from 1575 on Luther's Church.

Amazing door depicting stories as entrance to church.

One of my favorites showing the tiling on all the roofs.

A remote side street in Zurich Old Town.

Peering off a pier.

The foggy haze so common around lake Zurich.

Zurich was an experience that I could not have understood without going there. There is so much money and financing for the world that runs through this very political city, the vibe is rather intense and draining on the spirit. The history is also rich. Many things stem from this city. There are the remains of foundations in the Lake of Zurich which supported homes for the Lake Dwellers, dating back some 4500 years ago. There is the rampant problem of drugs, prostitution and other big city ailments side by side with the wealthiest banks in the world. The old town had a very European charm to the architecture, coupled with the gray, foggy environment common throughout Switzerland in the winter months. It was good to visit, but the smaller villages are probably my preference.
